How old is it?
A little while ago when my dad woke me up, I ran up the stairs from my room, quickly eating breakfast, brushing my hair (and all that morning stuff).
Just as I was ready to leave the house, my dad told me I still had 10 minutes before I had to go.
So I plopped down on the couch beside the stairs, I looked around the room, there on the arm of the couch was a toy doll.
The doll looked very, very old and well loved.
My dad who had been working on the computer turn around to see me admiring the doll and I asked him “Who’s doll is this?”
His reply was, “It was Nana’s old doll but now it is yours.”
After school I saw my mom looking around I ask her “What are you looking for.”
I was shocked to hear “My doll, have you seen it?”
After a minute I told her it was in my room. Then my brother ran up to me and told me the phone was for me, I took it from him, smiled and put it up to my ear asking who it was I got a shocking reply of “It is mama, Darion.”
Shocked I continued on “Why are you calling me?”
“Well I was wondering if got that doll I gave you?”
Now my head was really spinning, my mom thought the doll was her’s, but my grandma was giving it to me? “Hold on a minute let me talk to my mom.”
My mom hearing her name turned around and looked at me.
“Mom,” I ventured searching for the right words “mama says she was giving the doll to me.”
I stretched out my arms and waited for my mom to hand over the doll but instead of getting the doll I got a serious reply, “It isn’t mama’s to give away! It is my doll, and I want to give it to my grandchildren, when I have some.”
Taking the phone to my ear once again I told my mama that my mom wanted to keep her doll and that I have no authority over her but that I care for the thoughtfulness and that I will see her soon.
After I hung up the phone I and asked my mom, “Were are you going to keep it?”
Looking up at me from the table my mom answered “In your room, if that’s okay?”
I nodded took the doll and walked off to put the doll in my baby bed that my grandfather had made me when I was really little.
Apparently the doll in 86 year old.
How old is the oldest toy you own?

The doll is called “Nana” which I, Darion’s mom named it when MY Nana gave it to me the Christmas I was 9 years old. Nana was my grandma – Darion’s great-grandma. Nana thinks she got the doll when she was about 9. One day I will give it Darion’s daughter if she has one. Maybe Darion will take a picture of the doll & post it? It’s body has and dress has been re-made 30 years ago, but the china head is really old, like Darion says.

Hello Darion!
My name is Abbey and I will be visiting your blog throughout the Student Challenge to leave you comments.
That is a really interesting story! I don’t have any old toys, but the basket that holds my stuffed animals is pretty old. It is actually the crib that my grandpa slept in as a baby! I have had the basket for as long as I can remember.

Hey Darion,
.
I really like your blog! I always have a hard time thinking of good ideas for posts, but yours are really creative. That is a funny experience you had. I own a doll set, similar to yours, that my grandma gave me. But she had two boys, so I’m pretty sure I won’t have to battle it off of my dad

Your story of the doll is really heartwarming! I think your mom actually intended for you to have that doll. She’s very thoughtful. Saying that it will be for her grandchildren (your children, that is) is a very heroic thing to do since you can’t just give away something as precious (an as old, that can pass as an antique). My oldest treasure would have to be an 18th century coin that was given to me by a dear friend who’s 80 years my senior!

I do not have an old toy myself but I would really like to follow your family’s act. I would like to have a toy which will be like a family heirloom and pass it on to my grandchildren.

I think that is a great idea, but first you need to look at your toys and think of one that would suit a girl or a boy.
